Episode Three - "Blues Medicine"

The third show opens up with a profile of Morgan Davis. I had the opportunity to spend a couple of hours with Morgan and I was mesmerized by his thoughts on the blues. "Blues Medicine" is one of my favourite blues album of all time, out there. If you haven't heard the album, do yourself a favour and pick it up. It's a classic as far as I'm concerned. In my opinion, Morgan is one of the great "bluesman" of today. When he talks about playing the blues, it's not about the crowd size or the pay cheque (or lack there of) but it's about the music and the connecting with the audience. He simply blows me away. It is the image of Morgan's hands with the slide, that I use in some of the Talkin' Blues promotional shots.

Colin Linden and I went to the same school. Of course, we never really knew each other and the only time I spoke to him was when a mutual friend of ours took me to see him play a club way back in 1979. Over the years, he has gone on to produce some great artists and great music. Colin was kind enough to spend a little time with me at the Ottawa Blues festival and provide me with this video from his album, "Big Mouth".

"Lessons Learned" comes from an interview I did with Anson Funderburgh on his bus before his show at Healey's in Toronto. The question was simply, "is there anything that you have learned from another musician that still holds true with you today which you could share with us?" I just loved his answer because it's speaks volumes about man he's talking about. I feel exactly the same way abou the man he is talking about...and then some.
