Episode Twelve - "Backbeat"

Episode twelve begins with Morgan Davis sharing an incident he and David Wilcox shared at a Bukka White show. Another one of those little amusing moments that I thought was worth sharing.

Ask any one who plays or sings the blues and they will tell you the importance that the rhythm section plays. In the next segment, few of my favourite blues drummers talk about the important ingredients to being a great blues drummer. This segment features the thoughts of Willie "Big Eyes" Smith, Neil Guvin, R.J. Spangler, Jimmy Milleniux and Big Joe Maher.

During the course of this project, I have seen many artists who I knew nothing about before I saw them perform. This says less about the artists and more about how little I know about the blues. Every so often, I walk away totally impressed - and I am reminded of just exactly how little I know. Bill Perry from New York is one such artist who totally blew me away when I saw him perform at the Silver Dollar Room in Toronto. This segment features the words and music of Bill Perry.

There are some people who are great musicians and some people who tell great stories. Guy Davis is one of those people who happens to do both. In the final segment of this episode, Guy Davis shares an experience he had which helped him dig deeper into the blues.
